Louise Mount Hospital, Chennalode is the only fully equipped psychiatric hospital in Wayanad District. This hospital was founded by the Congregation of the Sisters of charity of St. Vincent De Paul, Mananthavady. Over the years, this hospital has flourished with the support of the public, government and local bodies. The hospital is providing in-patients facility and out-patient consultation for the psychiatric patients. It has a rich pool of qualified, skilled and highly dedicated team of medical, para medical and nursing personnel whose motto is "Merciful love conquers the world." Psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, Psychiatric Social Workers, Nursing staff and health workers give treatment to the mentally ill patients.
As the activities of the hospital has been expanded, for the better administration of the hospital, the Congregation felt it is desirable to register under a public charitable trust to manage the hospital by its same name. As such, the charitable trust - Louise Mount Hospital was formed and registered at the Sub registry office, Ernakulum vide the trust registration No.lvl 7481 2010' The object of the trust is to render medical service solely for philanthropic service and not for purposes of profit, irrespective of caste, creed, community, religion or sex. The sole activity of the trust is to run the Louise Mount Hospital. To comply with the Income tax regulations applicable to charitable trusts, it is decided to seek registration U/s 12AA of the Income tax Act.
Most specialized treatment is provided to the psychiatric patients, especially those hailing from the lower and middle income group at affordable rates. From its inception, the hospital has been serving the poor psychiatric patients from different districts of Kerala and neighboring states. Various Psychiatric treatments provided in the hospital are management of anxiety depression, adjustment disorders, management of childhood problems, behavior disorders, detoxification of addicts, maintenance of abstentions through medical and psychological help, behavioral modification therapy and relaxation therapy. The in- patient facility of the hospital is for 1-50 patients, which is almost full during all the days in a year. The annual op consultation done for the Psychiatric patients comes around 15,000'
There are 2 psychiatrics, 1 Clinical psychologist, 1 Psychologist, 4 Psychiatric Social Workers, 15 nursing staff, 30 general staff in this hospital. They dedicate their selfless service to the psychiatric patients during day and night throughout in a year.
The activities of the hospital include drug therapy, occupational therapy, de - addiction, sex therapy, psychological assessment, psychiatric counseling, child and geriatric counseling, medical lab, pharmacy, outreach programmes, awareness programmes for family members, training programmes for the medical staff, orientation programme for all staff members.
